3 Reasons Why Jesus Came to Earth

Over 2,000 years ago, a Child was born in Bethlehem. But He was not just any child. He was the Son of God Himself. And His birth marked the turning point of man’s history. Why did Jesus Christ leave Heaven to be born as a Baby?

Here are 3 reasons why Jesus came to earth.

1) To serve

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister…” Mark 10:45

As the Son of God, Jesus could have demanded that people worship Him and wait on Him hand and foot. But Jesus did not do that. He came to serve people, not to be served.

Jesus was not absorbed in His own needs and desires. He was constantly giving time, energy, and wisdom to people. Jesus took time to heal a blind man, raise a daughter from the dead, and cure a leper.

His eyes, ears, and heart were constantly attentive to the needs of others. Jesus served others with compassion, dignity, and grace. In our prison ministries in Prince Albert, we seek to serve others as Jesus did.

2) To seek and save the lost

Ever since Adam and Eve’s fall into sin (see Genesis 3 for details), everyone is born “lost.” This simply means that we are separated from God by our sin. Isaiah explains, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way…” (Isaiah 53:6)

Like lost sheep who wander away from the Shepherd, we are spiritually lost. Our sins separate us from our Creator, God.

Yet Luke 19:10 tells us, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Jesus came to seek every man, woman, and child. He offers them forgiveness, eternal life, and a relationship with God Himself.

3) To give His life a ransom for many

In Mark 10:45, the Bible points us to the primary reason that Jesus came to earth.

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

Because of our sin, we all deserve death and eternal punishment in a place the Bible calls hell. But Jesus came to take the punishment for our sins. He died on the cross as a ransom, a substitute for us.

Romans 5:8 tells us, ““But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

God offers forgiveness and eternal life to anyone who will turn from their sins and believe on Jesus. In our prison ministries in Prince Albert, we have seen firsthand the transformation that Jesus can make in a life.

John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Why did Jesus come to earth? He came to serve others, to seek the lost, and to give his life a ransom for us. Have you accepted His forgiveness and believed on Him to save you?
